Volunteer Programme in Nepal

For many of us Nepal conjures up images of immense snow-capped mountains. Indeed the world's highest mountains lie in Nepal, making it a mountaineers dream. But Nepal has more to offer than just the high Himalayas. Small as the country may be, the land is diverse geographically as well as ethnically. You will find rich cultures and vibrant traditions, exquisite temples and monuments as well as fast flowing rivers and tropical jungles, making your volunteering trip an unforgettable one. Nepal suffers from a range of social and economic problems after a decade of war and a lack of investment in basic infrastructure Nepal. It needs help to upgrade its economy. Volunteering in Nepal, give you a unique opportunity to make a real contribution to Nepali society, while simultaneously experience the rich culture of Nepal.

Zero Commission Volunteering Opportunities**

At PEP we do not believe in charging our volunteers extortionate placement fees. Our interest is in helping the communities, not making a profit. Our volunteers just pay a flat $50 registration fee, regardless of the length of their placement. This enables us to find suitable placements and provide training and ongoing support as required. All food and accommodation is paid direct to host families at local prices. By working in this way we can ensure your money directly supports these communities in need. You are of course welcome to make additional donations directly to the village school, hospitals, PEPNepal projects & Village community development.

If you would like to support PEPNepal through voluntary work and have a skill that is not listed below please get in touch [info@pepnepal.org] and we will try to create a placement for you.

** The only cost is a $50 registration charge which includes pickup from the airport, a class about nepali culture and introduction to the volunteer program and drop to the project Place.

Opportunities currently include established placements in:

Teaching English in Schools

Volunteers are placed in government, community schools and PEPNepal Youth to teach conversational English and reading classes to Nepali children during school and non-school hours.
In Nepal, English is increasingly required for job placement and educational success.
We encourage volunteers to come equipped to teach Western cooking, Music, , songs, dances, and other activities such as sports, arts or health and sanitation programmes These will help students of all levels improve their vocabulary.

Teaching English in Monasteries

Volunteers are placed in monasteries or Tibetan refugee camps to teach conversational English and reading classes to monks. During the placement volunteers can have a chance to join the student’s monks and teachers in practicing group meditation, Buddhist prayers and chants, along with other religious and cultural celebrations and activities.

Child Care & Orphanages

Volunteers will teach Basic English and other subjects such as math and science, organize tours, games, singing, dancing, painting and other activities in children’s homes and orphanages.
Roles will vary but are likely to include looking after children before and after school, caring for sick children, mending clothing, educating children on basic hygiene, helping children with homework and assisting on medical visits.

PEPNepal Youth Work (open to yoga, massage, reiki, meditation teachers or practitioners)

Volunteers will teach basic skills in yoga, massage, reiki, meditation etc to the PEPNepal Youth, introducing and encouraging them to practice for the benefit of their own and possibly others’ health.

Home stay and Cultural exchange (open to all)

Home stays and cultural exchange programs can be arranged in typical nepali villages with different ethnic groups - in both tourist and remote areas of Nepal. There are also options to stay with Newar Families around the Durbar squares of Kathmandu, Patan & Bhaktapur. This provides the volunteers with an excellent opportunity to learn about all aspects of Nepali culture, lifestyle, language, food and people. Volunteers should remember that this is a cultural exchange. They should therefore be willing to offer some knowledge of their own culture and customs to the family with whom they stay.

During their home-stay, volunteers will attend daily language lessons. They will also have the opportunity to visit different areas of interest and can participate in different cultural program around village.
